This guide covers both Auto and Deep mode, from choosing a document to opening the translated DOCX on your computer.
Auto — AI translates the whole document automatically. Deep — AI extracts terms; you review them before translating.
Before you start
Pattrans accepts Word documents in .docx format.
If your document is still in the older .doc format, Pattrans shows The older Word format
(.doc) is not supported yet. Open the document in Word, choose File → Save As → Word Document
(.docx), then select the new file. Your original file is left untouched.
Set up the project
The progress bar differs by mode:
- Auto has four stages: Configure → Analyze → Translate → Complete
- Deep has five: Configure → Analyze → Terms → Translate → Complete
Everything below happens in Configure. The order here is a convenient working order, not necessarily the order the controls appear on screen.
-
Choose where the project is saved. At Project folder, select Choose folder.
-
Add the document. Drag the
.docxfile onto the document area, or use or click to choose a file · DOCX and pick it from your computer. -
Check the project name. Project name is taken from the document name; before a name is set the field shows Auto-named from the file…. To use a different name, select Edit name.
-
Set the language pair. Choose Source and Target. This step is required: Start translating stays disabled until the document is added and the pair is supported. If the combination is not available yet, Pattrans shows This language pair is not supported yet.
-
Select the mode. Choose Auto or Deep.
-
Choose a technical field — optional. Electrical - Electronics - IT · Mechanical - Construction · Chemistry - Pharma - Biology · General. You can start without choosing one; the field only guides terminology.
-
Decide how terminology is used — optional. Turn on Use My Termbase to apply the terminology saved in your account. The label also shows how many terms it currently holds, or (none yet) when the termbase is empty. To use terminology from a separate file for this project only, select Import termbase from file.
-
Check the project information bar. Confirm the values next to Project, Use My Termbase: and Words: match the document you intend to translate.
-
Select Start translating.
If Pattrans asks you to check the source language
Pattrans compares the document against the source language you chose. When they disagree it opens Check source language and warns that translating the wrong language may give incorrect results and still be charged. You can:
| Choice | What it does |
|---|---|
| Switch to … → … | Swap to the pair Pattrans detected |
| Cancel and re-check | Go back to Configure without starting |
| Translate … → … anyway | Start with the pair you chose |
Read this dialog before dismissing it. Standard Words are charged even when the language pair is wrong.
Follow the progress
In Auto, processing runs through the remaining stages on its own.
In Deep, it stops at Terms and waits for you to review them — see Review terms before translating with Deep mode.
Keep the project open until the progress bar reaches Complete.
Cancel a run
Select Cancel translation, then confirm in Confirm cancellation.
Standard Words are charged by the % processed at cancellation time. The unused portion is refunded.
Open the result
At Complete the screen shows Translation complete! and a table with File name, Words, Characters and Documents.
| Action | Opens |
|---|---|
| Open source | your original document |
| Open translation | the translated document |
| Open formatted translation | the translated document with filing formatting applied |
| Open bilingual | the three-column file for reviewing in Word — see Review the bilingual translation in Word |
Check that the DOCX opens correctly, then file it as you normally would.
