Pattrans is a desktop application. Everything that belongs to you — your Plan, your Standard Words and your termbase — is attached to your account, not to the machine you installed it on. So the first thing to get right is the account.

Install

The desktop application is published for Windows and macOS. For current availability and the installer itself, see Download.

Once installed, open Pattrans and either create an account or sign in. Nothing else has to be set up first.

Create an account

There are two ways to create one, and they produce the same account:

  • Email and password — choose Sign up, then fill in your name, email and password.
  • Google — the first Google sign-in with an email that has no Pattrans account creates one. This is worth knowing, because it means there is no separate “sign up with Google” step.

Either way you are asked to agree to the Terms of Service and confirm you have read the Privacy Policy before the account exists.

A new account starts with free trial Standard Words, so you can run a translation before paying for anything.

Three doors lead to the same account:

HowWhen to use it
Email and passwordThe account was created with a password
Sign in with GoogleThe account was created with Google
Sign in with a code sent by emailEither kind — a 6-digit code goes to your registered address and signs you in without a password

The third one matters more than it looks. It is the way back in for an account created with Google whose owner can no longer use that Google account, as long as the mailbox still receives mail.

Signing in can sign other devices out. How many devices may be signed in at the same time depends on your Plan. When Pattrans has to make room, it tells you which devices were signed out.

If you cannot sign in

Which remedy works depends on how the account was created — this is the part that catches people out.

The account uses a password. Choose Forgot password?. A 6-digit reset code is sent to your registered address; it expires after the number of minutes shown on screen. If the message has not arrived, check your Spam / Junk folder, and check the address you typed.

The account uses Google. There is no password to reset, so no reset code will ever arrive. Use Sign in with Google, or Sign in with a code sent by email — the emailed sign-in code works for this kind of account too.

Pattrans says Account deleted. A deleted account can be restored for a limited period after deletion; the screen shows the deadline and offers Restore account.

Pattrans says Could not connect to the server. That is a connection problem, not a wrong password — your credentials have not been rejected. Check your network and try again.
